Community Economic Relief Fund FAQs

The Community Economic Relief Fund is aimed at addressing the critical needs of people negatively impacted by the economy.

What you need to know
Nonprofits may not apply for funding from the Community Economic Relief Fund.

Why can't nonprofits apply?
The Foundations have identified specific outcomes to help those most negatively impacted by the economy. Foundation staffs are working with nonprofit leaders to identify specific organizations best positioned to meet needs throughout Minnesota in the following areas of need: food stability; housing stability; financial assistance and counseling; health; mental health; and jobs and training.

Nonprofits considered by the Foundations demonstrate capacity to:

Meet the needs of two distinct populations: 1) low-income persons typically using safety net services whose economic situations have been worsened by the economy; and 2) people who typically have been self-sufficient but who have lost their homes, jobs or are plagued with massive credit card debt.

Effectively serve in an intermediary role to work with a network of providers located throughout the community to impact as many people as possible and/or take services to a larger scale.

When will grants be announced?
Community Economic Relief Fund grants will be announced throughout 2009 and 2010 as they are made.
