The mission of the Pan African Community Endowment is to strengthen the Pan African community by promoting philanthropy in a manner that reflects its history, culture and traditions. In carrying out its mission, the Pan African Community Endowment seeks to work in collaboration with the community to develop a sense of ownership and self-determination.
The Pan African Community Endowment is a permanent endowment fund that provides a long-term capital base from which charitable grants are made each year to support the Pan African community. This community includes native Africans and all those who share an African heritage, regardless of where they were born.
Since 1996, the Pan African Community Endowment has awarded grants totaling approximately $475,000 to 126 organizations in the Pan African community.

The Pan African Community Endowment - through the Lou Fuller Memorial Health Fund - provided grants to the Upper Midwest Organ Procurement Organization, Inc. (the legal name for LifeSource) to help finance the Increasing Organ and Tissue Donation in the African American Community Project.
The project aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation in the African American community. The grants - $6,000 in 2004 and $5,000 in 2006 - and additional funds from other organizations helped support a radio and print campaign and production of a special panel discussion program that aired on TPT.
Read about the Barbershop Campaign, a new program that trains barbers primarily serving African American clientele to talk about organ donation and other issues, at http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_7036411.
LifeSource and Southside Community Health Services are featured in the article. Clarence Jones, an advisory board member of the Endowment, works for Southside Community Health Services, a partner in the Barbershop Campaign.

Affordable housing is one of the issues the Pan African Community Endowment has identified as a critical focus for its work in the community. In exploring this issue, we developed a housing committee that is working to build a stronger constituency of black leadership around affordable housing matters. Currently, we consider the decreasing rate of black homeowners and the impact of foreclosures on the Pan African community as critical issues.
On June 7, 2007, the Endowment's Housing Committee continued an ongoing dialogue about how it might have a better impact on housing issues at both the service delivery and policymaking levels. The event was held at the African Development Center. View the PowerPoint slideshow from the event presentation. (5.45 MB)
